Sade-Sati is a term known to inflict fear in the minds of most of us. We believe it is a time of pain, suffering and agony. And I don’t deny the fact that it does bring trouble for many. But is it what the phase is all about – causing misery and discomfort? Not always.
What is Sade-Sati?
It is a period of 7.5 years governed by Saturn. For any individual, the phase begins when Saturn enters the zodiac sign 12th from his Moon. It continues until it is in the zodiac 2nd from the Moon. Example: Someone’s Moon sign is Libra. For him, the phase of Sade-Sati will be when Saturn is in Virgo, Libra and Scorpio. It stays in these 3 signs for 2.5 years each.
Who is Saturn?
1. Saturn is “the” judge. An impartial and strict judge who wants people to abide by the laws. (For my fellow Indians – Traffic laws/rules are no exception). It does not spare those involved in forgery, dishonesty, cheating and corruption. In short, a person doing any kind of immoral act has to face its wrath. However,
Saturn is not just about punishing for bad deeds. It also rewards our moral behaviour and good deeds enormously. No planet rewards better!
2. Saturn represents subordinates and lower-class. It wants us to respect and not ill-treat any one who’s inferior to us in any way.
3. Saturn likes discipline and workaholism. It wants us to work hard. Being lethargic is not a wise thing to do when Saturn’s watching. Just keep working hard and with honesty and you’re not far from receiving Saturn’s blessings.
Motive of Sade-Sati
In these 7.5 years, Saturn takes the individual on a journey to purify his soul. It gives him an opportunity to rectify the bad karma done in the past and go through complete transformation. It is just like a patient going for surgery. The process of treatment may be painful. More severe the disease (bad karmas), more the suffering. But at the end (of 7.5 years), the person emerges as a healthy being. Void of diseases.
The learning which Sade-Sati gives us is tremendously beneficial for life. So instead of being fearful, we should accept it with open arms. That’s how we make the most of it.
